Our Story
Crop & Field began in 2014 with a secondhand drum roaster, a drafty workshop in the foothills, and a stubborn conviction: coffee tastes best within days of roasting, not weeks. Everything we do still bends toward that single idea.
A roastery built on patience
Our founders spent years chasing great cups across origin countries before deciding the missing piece wasn’t a rarer bean — it was freshness. So we built the company backwards from the customer’s mug: roast in small batches, ship the moment the beans rest, and never let a bag sit on a shelf going stale.
That meant saying no to the things that make coffee convenient and old. No warehouses full of pre-roasted inventory. No mystery blends padded with last season’s lots. Just green coffee we know by farm, roasted to order the day it leaves us.
The people behind the beans
We work directly with growers we visit by name. Long relationships mean better prices for farmers, better transparency for us, and a cup that actually reflects the place it came from. When a lot from a partner farm tastes extraordinary, we don’t blend it into anonymity — we put their name on the bag.
- Direct relationships with every farm we buy from.
- Seasonal sourcing, so you’re tasting coffee at its peak, not its leftovers.
- Small lots roasted in batches we can taste and adjust by hand.
Roasted to order, shipped fresh
Every subscription is roasted on a schedule that matches how you actually drink. Your beans are still resting from the roaster when they go in the box, so they arrive at the sweet spot — bright, aromatic, and ready to bloom in the brewer.
A quick, honest note
Crop & Field is a fictitious company created to demonstrate how recurring coffee subscriptions work. The roastery, the farms, and the founders are invented — but the craft we celebrate here is very real, and the story is the kind we’d be proud to tell if it were.
